The 28th edition of the much awaited glamorous sporting event of the year, Signature Premier Indian Derby, was ablaze with designer wear, glitterati sprinkled glamour, racing enthusiasts, socialites and noted personalities on the lush green turf of the Mahalaxmi Race Course in Mumbai. Vogue+ Correspondents Madhura Sansare & Anita Balsare looks into the magnificent event and the thrill of the races as some of the finest thoroughbreds competed against each other.
The Signature Premier Indian Derby was won by In The Spotlight. The owner, Capt. Jamshed J Appoo took home a prize purse of a whooping 1.56 CR in INRs. The winning horse was trained by Padmanabhan and jockey was Martin Dwyer.
Charming the crowd with his impeccable style, Signature Premier Brand Ambassador Abhay Deol said, “To watch a horse gallop towards its victory is an amazing experience in a race which lasts no more than 3 minutes. Few of the glamorous personalities that lent their charm to the event were business tycoon Vijay Mallya along with son Siddharth Mallya, Four Seasons wines evangelist Shamita Singha, along with Sameera Reddy, Queenie Dhody, Zavaray Poonawalla, Pankaj Udhas to name a few.
Tribute performances to the yesteryear band Bee Gees by the UK Bee, and tribute artist Charlotte Hopley performing to chartbusters of Lady Gaga and Britney Spears kept the party going. Incredible performances by International dance group Sheketak and London’s leading lady magician Katherine Mills cast a spell on the audience. International fashion couture artist from the house of Ed Hardy and Christian Audigier, Adam Saaks performed his custom couture on Bollywood actress Sameera Reddy.
