The opening day of Signature Premiere Fashion Week Kolkata kick-started today with designer Paromita Banerji’s latest collection saluting the weavers of Bengal where she used fabrics like tangil, jamdani, dhakai, khadi, tussore, chanderi, pochampally, and ikat amongst all.

This was followed by Swati Agarwal whose collection was a representation of the contemporary women in the form of intricate embroideries, velvet appliqué, peplums and A-symmetrical drapes accompanied with jewels by Manju Agarwal. Next was an array of modish silhouettes by Neyhha Banka who did use “tic tac toe” digital prints and played around with vibrant colours.

The closing show of Abhishek Dutta was at Priya Cinema Hall where he showcased his collection of western line and a fusion range. Colours like mid-night blues, purples and black ruled his western line. The heritage feel of Priya Cinema played an integral part to match with the Bengali sensibilities. The showstoppers for Dutta were Bengali actors Indraneil Sengupta, Saheb Bhattacharya and Rituparna Sengupta who all dazzled the runaway in AD’s ensembles.

The focus in the first season is more on creating general awareness about fashion to the city dwellers. “The aim is to open doors for designers who are in the city and also to bring forth, and highlight designs from across the nation,” added Yudhajit Dutta, Event Director of the fashion fiesta.
