Neeta Lulla of Bombay
Neeta Lulla is one of India’s most successful costume designers, couturiers and fashion stylists. She is amongst the most awarded fashion designers in India having won the prestigious National Film Awards from the President of India on 4 occasions for Best Costume Design in a film and numerous other national and international accolades for excellence in the field of fashion designing and styling. In a career spanning over 26 years, she has worked to style the look for some of the finest Indian Films, biggest stars and worked with the most prominent Directors in India Cinema. She is known for styling magnum opus films like Chandni, Lamhe, Khal Nayak, Jeans, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, Taal, Kisna, Darr, Aaina, Khuda Gawah,Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Kadhalan, Kshnak Kshnam, Jagadika Veerudu Artiloka Sundari, Devdas, Jodha Akbar, One Night with the King, Sivaji, Kochadaiyaan, Rudrama Devi amongst others. She is credited for creating the look for leading Bollywood actresses like Sridevi, Aishwarya Rai, Juhi Chawla, Kareena Kapoor, Sushmita Sen, Shilpa Shetty, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra amongst many others. Some of the lead actors she’s styled include Rajinikanth, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan. Thereby setting fashion trends for the masses to follow.
Wendell Rodricks of Goa
Wendell Rodricks is trained in Los Angeles and Paris, he returned to India in 1988. After a brief span of two years, designing and styling for reputed companies such as Garden Vareli, cosmetic giant Lakme and diamond corporate DeBeers, Wendell Rodricks established his own label in 1990. He moved to his ancestral village in Goa in 1993, creating memorable collections each season inspired by many emotions : Tibetan Monastries, Tribal symbols of Shiva and Vishnu, the Harem at Istanbul, Tattoos of the Lambadi tribe, Clothing the Soul and the internationally unique VISIONNAIRE collection transferring Braille onto fabric for the visually challenged.
The first Indian designer invited to display his garments at the world’s largest garment fair in the world at IGEDO, Dusseldorf, Wendell Rodricks has been actively involved in all areas of fashion: lecturing on World Costume History, writing for the country’s leading women’s magazine, Chairman of the courses committee at the Board of Technical Education appointed by the Government of Goa and member Advisory Board of Fashion Institutes and Lakme Fashion Week. Patron of the Kasturba Gandhi Memorial Trust in Goa to promote hand spun Khaadi and retailing at the country’s best stores including the celebrated Wendell Rodricks Design Space in Panjim.
Agnimitra Paul of Kolkata
Agnimitra Paul started her career in 2001-02. She designed for Sridevi for her personal wardrobe. She later got her first big break designing costumes for the film Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche where she designed some costumes for Esha Deol. She designed outfits for Shonal Rawat for Femina Miss India pageant. She designed for the Bollywood film “Via Darjeeling” for Kay Kay Menon, Sonali Kulkarni, Parvin Dabas and Vinay Pathak. She also designed for more than 10 Tollywood films with actors like Mithun Chakraborty, Rituparna Sengupta, Jeet, Koel Mallick, Swastika Mukherjee, Mauli Ganguly, etc.
Rohit Bal of Delhi
Rohit Bal started his career with his brother Rajiv Bal in New Delhi in 1986, and started his own first independent collection in 1990. He was also chosen by the Khadi Gram Udyog, the largest handloom textile operation in panchkula, to work with them. Bal won the ‘Designer of the Year’ award at the Indian Fashion Awards in 2006. He also won ‘Designer of the Year’ at the Kingfisher Fashion Achievement Awards in 2001.He was announced as the Lakme Grand Finale Designer for 2012.
Rohit has designed for the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. He opened a flagship store in Delhi, as well as stores in Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Chennai. He has also ventured into the designing jewellery.
Bal’s clientele list includes Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford, Pamela Anderson, Naomi Campbell and Anna Kournikova. Most of his fashion shows in India, New York, Paris and Singapore are sponsored by The Swatch Group. He has also been the brand ambassador for Omega SA since 2001. He is best known for his use of Lotus and Peacock motifs, and for spectacular construction in his clothing.
